My name is Kris (formerly “Zoe” of erasure.ws), and this blog will be home to digitized offerings of my radio recordings from my early teen years; mostly KWOD 106.5 out of Sacramento in 1994 and 1995. These recordings are unedited for the most part, so they do include DJs, commercials, and songs cutting in and cutting out constantly for various reasons.
My favorite show to record off KWOD was Ambiance, a Sunday night show that specialized in electronic music. Being 13 years old when I found Ambiance, it played a major part in that self-discovery phase of my life that nearly all teenagers experience at some point, and continued to shape me into adulthood. Erasure is still my favorite group, I have a Depeche Mode tattoo, and I even met my husband on a Synthpop music message board in the early 2000’s.
There are also recordings of live club broadcasts, the syndicated Modern Rock Live, The Movement (the darker show that eventually replaced Ambiance), Shawn & Jeff (the KWOD morning show – I recorded them like every single morning as I got ready for school), and Alex Bennett (the Live 105 morning show – I recorded when my favorite comedians were guests, or when I was in the studio for the show).
By the end – whenever that will be, after all my hiatuses, haha – there will be over 90 in total. Lord, I listened to a LOT of radio.
