Tape 31

Anytime you here a song fade in, that was a fun trick I learned to do with my very first stereo. I’d switch it to AUX, start recording, then switch back to FM (or cassette if I was making a copy). It would make the audio fade in. I was like 9 when I figured that out 😀

Anyway, most of this tape is a compilation I put together with my mad skillz. I would usually play these when I played basketball in the backyard with my neighbors (because nothing says bball like Always or Pandora’s Box, right?

If you haven’t noticed, I REALLY liked Always. Couldn’t get enough of it. Especially in 1994. Especially the Microbots Trance Dance Mix. When you’re 13 and your favorite group comes out with a masterpiece like Always…. Ahhhh life was good.

Tape 29

Ohhhhh boy. This is a little embarrassing 😀

So. New Years Eve 1994/95, my parents and some neighbors were having their own little New Years bash in our hot tub while the neighbor’s two kids (Lisa and Michael) hung out with me inside the house listening to KWOD. I think it was Lisa’s idea to call in to talk to the DJ, who was taking calls between playing the top 100 songs of the year. We each took a cordless phone, redialing frantically until it rang. When we got through, I couldn’t hear a DAMN THING. Maybe because we were on two phones? But that’s why you’ll hear me say “what?” every time Zog said anything (God, so embarrassing). Of course as soon as 9 year old Michael hears that we’ve made it on the radio he starts goofing off like never before, hence my “shut up, Michael!” Lisa had promised to do the talking but all she could say was, in her best Butthead impression, “uh, you’re cool”, while I pleaded with her, “Talk. Talk now. Lisa!”

Zog, if you’re out there, I want to thank you for your patience during this call. We weren’t prank callers (listening now, we probably sounded like we were). When we hung up, we went ballistic, jumping around screaming in disbelief that it just happened. You made our whole year 🙂

After that, I recorded a comedy show with Alex Bennett, I believe it’s Breakfast With Bennett.

Tape 26

Warner is a serious pain in my ass. 90% of my blocked videos have been because of Warner. Unfortunately SOMETHING on this tape is blocked on Youtube and all I know is that it came from an hour+ long Paul Oakenfold mix. I am never going to be able to find it. And after going through my edit and upload process EVERY time I was emailed a copyright claim (WHY can’t they just tell me all at once?)…after more than an hour of edit, export, shrink, upload, repeat…. I am just done. That kind of shit is really taking the fun out of this.

I used Soundcloud for this one, and it looks like I’ll be using a combination of Youtube and Hearthis in the future.

End rant. Hahaha.

Tape 25

Another tape where I couldn’t decide what to listen to, haha. I think I was over La Bouche and wanted to see what was going on over at The Zone or KOME or whatever else I would wander off to if KWOD wasn’t doing it for me. We start out at The Alphabet Club, then on to Shawn and Jeff and like 45 minutes of no one being able to guess the Fast Track CD. It literally takes up half the tape. Haha. The prize was a CD and tickets to the upcoming 1995 Christmas Concert on December 13.

Tape 22

The audio on some of this tape is just abysmal. But it’s still kinda cool 🙂 I date parts of it July 4-7 (from Glastonbury ’96 in the beginning) and possibly July 14 (being the Sunday after the release of Electronic’s Raise The Pressure 🙂 )

By the way the entire Glastonbury broadcast is available at archive.org – rad!
