Tape 44

We start this one off with Sunday Night Arena, starring Mazzy Star, which is odd because I didn’t really care for them at the time. As I don’t even remember recording this, thus, don’t remember ever hearing Mazzy Star live before, I’m quite taken by how beautiful and good it is. Maybe because I’m older and depressed so I can appreciate it now, haha.

Once again, I captured the sides in the wrong order. The Jesus and Mary Chain’s portion of Sunday Night Arena comes later at 57:35. Oops.

I have noooo clue when the majority of this tape was recorded. A contest ends April 30, Grant Hill Shoes were released in 1995, and one of the Mazzy Star songs was released in October 1996. So your guess is as good as mine πŸ™‚

  • Commercials and Station ID
  • Mazzy Star – Give You My Lovin’ (Live)
  • Mazzy Star – Fade Into You (Live)
  • Commercials (I always thought Jim Koch had the cutest voice. I always pictured him as an animated friendly little gnome.)
  • Call in from Michael Hayse at The Asylum at The Rage, with Did You Miss Me by The Young Gods in the background (?) haha
  • Eurythmics – Love Is A Danger (ah, we’re on The Zone for that one)
  • Mazzy Star – Halah (Live) (maybe I was channel surfing)
  • Shawn and Jeff – Schoolhouse Rock! I was obsessed with these for a while. They should really bring these back. Then some talk about Voyager. I remember when they were extras, and I watched and recorded the episode, not considering that as I’d never seen them before, I had no idea who I was looking for. I rewatched a few times but never did figure out who they were.
  • Commercials – I love how 5 years after the 80s were over there was already an 80s club haha.
  • Shawn and Jeff – “Funny how things we say on air come back to haunt us” *proceeds to do Native impression* (that didn’t age well, haha)
  • Electronic – Disappointed
  • My Life WIth The Thrill Kill Kult – Sex on Wheelz
  • Better Than Ezra – Good (Live on On The Edge)
  • Counting Crows – Einstein On The Beach (aww my favorite Crows song. Why’d I cut it off?)
  • Xymox – Imagination (Siiigh this song reminds me of road trips. Awwwwwwww)
  • Erasure – Crown of Thorns (Oh HEY Andy! Love ya. WHY DID I CUT IT OFF)
  • New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle
  • Shawn and Jeff – Ugh I know I know who he’s talking about. I can’t put my finger on it.
  • Alphaville – Forever Young
  • Bad Boys Blue – Save Your Love (And just like that we’re transported to 97.7 KWIN in 1993. Man, this was my JAM that summer, and I used to dance awkwardly around my room with a full leg cast, using my crutch upside down as a mic (ew), just rocking the hell out to this song. Then you get a split second of Ditty by Paperboy, which was another jam of mine at the time. I was a very ecclectic child. Haha. Taylor Dayne is sneaking through in the background, confirming that this was originally a much older tape than my others, possibly ’91 or ’92, then recorded over. Too bad πŸ™ )
  • I love DJ banter haha
  • The Jesus and Mary Chain – Sidewalking (Live)
  • The Jesus and Mary Chain w/ Hope Sandoval – Sometimes Always
  • The Jesus and Mary Chain – Reverence
  • “Request Magazine’s New Music Minute” – I don’t remember these at all. Mentions of Mary J. Blige, Moby, and Elastica / Justine Frischmann. Kind of an odd little blurb.
  • Mazzy Star – Flowers in December (Live)
  • Mazzy Star – Ride It On (Live)
  • Mazzy Star – Into Dust (Live) (Ugh. I think I’m a Mazzy Star fan now. Only took 30 years. haha)
